Yin Yoga

Yin is in! And it's one of my favorite yoga styles. In my class, the focus is on the functionality of the poses, not on aesthetics. Yin is personal; it's about you and what your body needs at this moment. Yin is for everyone.

In Yin Yoga, we work on flexibility and mobility in our yin tissues (connective tissue, tendons, joints, and ligaments) and on strengthening our bones. Because these tissues aren't elastic, it's important that the muscles surrounding the connective tissue are completely relaxed.

Unlike other forms of yoga, we therefore hold the poses longer (at least 3 to 5 minutes). We move into the pose until we feel resistance. When we reach that limit, we pause and give our body the time and opportunity to open up more and invite us to go even deeper into the pose. From there, we might go a bit further, or we might stay where we are. As long as we don't experience any real pain, we remain in the position, accepting the discomfort we experience at that moment and allowing gravity to do the work.

Your limits are constantly changing, and in this way, you become aware of your limits. We're not just talking about your physical limits, but also your emotional and mental limits. When you reach this point of reasonable, but not maximum, resistance, you settle into the position and remain there without moving further. We bring stillness into our body, our breathing, and our mind. Our muscles are inactive, our breathing is quiet, natural, soft, and neutral, reaching deep into our abdomen. When our body experiences stillness and our breathing is calm, we have created the right conditions for stillness to arise in our mind.

In Yin Yoga, we integrate the wisdom of Taoism and Traditional Chinese Medicine and experience the principles of mindfulness on a physical level. We work with the 12 main meridians (energy pathways) in our body, which translate into the five elements, and we work with our chakras. Each class has a different theme, and we focus on a specific area. This could be a physical area, but it could also focus on specific emotions or be based on one of the elements.

You can contact me for workshops for companies, festivals, and/or retreats (short-term retreats abroad are negotiable). If you have a health club or gym in Dordrecht or the surrounding area and are looking for a yoga teacher to fill in, you can always contact me. Classes/workshops can also be offered in English upon request.

In addition to regular group classes, private lessons are also available. These are held in a yoga studio or at home and cost €50.00 per class (60 minutes) or €65.00 for 90 minutes.

We also offer the opportunity to address specific ailments and release blockages on an individual level, whether physical, emotional, or mental. This form of instruction goes deeper and is more focused on healing, and is fully tailored to your personal situation. A personalized plan will be created for this, and one-on-one lessons will be offered (this can also be done at your home). Read more about Yin Yoga Therapy here.

Slow (Vinyasa) Flow

My Slow (Vinyasa) Flow classes are great for full-body flexibility, but at the same time, they're a great way to release tension and connect with your body.

We move mindfully, connecting with our breath, and we open ourselves up to release tension and allow relaxation to occur.

We work on the flexibility and mobility of our bodies and eliminate tension. You give yourself the space to release the tension you want to release, whether it's physical, mental, or emotional.

I don't think people realize the boost we get from movement. Movement is a fantastic tool that helps release physical, mental, and emotional tension and anxiety. When we move our bodies, we set our stagnant and stored energies and tensions in motion, allowing us to release feelings of stress, anxiety, and nervousness.

When our energy stagnates, mental and emotional stress has nowhere to go and accumulates as tension, fatigue, fear, and a sense of urgency. Exercise is a natural antidepressant, yet many people still view it as simply a way to burn calories.

Slow (vinyasa) flow is a gentle flow, meaning we focus on connecting our breath with the movements, but we don't rush to move to the next position. We gradually build up the flow, allowing your body to become accustomed to the movements, allowing you to easily follow the constant flow at a leisurely pace.

Something magical happens when we synchronize movement and breath. We are truly present in the moment and enter a flow state. It becomes a meditation in motion, connected to our breath.

While Yin Yoga is wonderfully relaxing, it doesn't compare to the relaxation that flow brings. Synchronizing movement and breath changes our energy, improves our mood, brings us out of our heads and into our bodies, releases anxious energy, and releases endorphins, which can give us a natural high.
