Reiki
Truly everything is imbued with energy. As humans, we have always been fascinated by this energy and its power within our own bodies and the world around us. This energy that flows through our bodies goes by many names, such as Chi, Qi, or consciousness. At the moment of conception, this energy permeates our bodies and is the intelligence that helps each cell divide and find a purpose, becoming the trillions of cells that make up our magnificent body. Chi is the life force energy, the breath of life, just like prana in Indian culture, pneuma in ancient Greece, mana in Hawaiian culture, Manitou in Native American culture, and more.
Our bodies are constantly engaged in healing and seeking balance. It is the energy that resides within us that helps the body heal aspects of itself where needed. In the distant past, our ancestors possessed an innate wisdom they used to heal themselves and maintain vitality. Over time, with our focus shifting to what lies outside ourselves, we seem to have lost the ability to see clearly within and connect with our bodies.
While Reiki is relatively new to many of us, it is an ancient hands-on relaxation and healing method that dates back several thousand years. It was rediscovered in Japan in the late 1800s by Mikao Usui and passed down from Master to student.
What is Reiki?
Reiki is a Japanese hands-on technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing and is based on the concept that everything in the universe is made of energy.
This "life force energy," which flows all around us, is absorbed by our bodies and nourishes our cells, organs, and glands. This same energy also radiates outward and is called the human energy field.
When a person's energy is weakened, out of balance, or when its flow is obstructed by stress and "holding," trauma, or negative emotions in the body, they are more susceptible to mental, emotional, and physical discomfort.
When our energy flows freely and in balance, we are more relaxed, more out of our minds and in touch with our bodies, and our bodies can more quickly access our self-healing capacity.
According to research conducted as early as 1930 by Dr. Harold Burr of Yale, imbalances in our bodies can be detected in the energy field before symptoms appear. These can be changed by altering the vibrational frequency of the energy field. This was not really considered at the time. It was once accepted, but is now becoming increasingly recognized.
What does Reiki feel like?
Reiki can be given with or without touch, in person or remotely. While Reiki can be "hands-on," unlike massage, for example, it is administered through a gentler and more subtle touch (without pressure).
While you are sitting or lying down (fully clothed), the practitioner's hands are placed along the energy centers and pathways on the head, neck, chest, abdomen, legs, and feet (similar to the points used by acupuncturists). As energy is transferred to your body, you may experience warmth, coolness, gentle tingling, or simply deep relaxation. You don't have to do anything else, just experience it. For those in the final stages of life, it can also provide a more peaceful transition.
What are the benefits?
Deep relaxation, reduced muscle tension, pain relief, accelerated wound healing, improved immune system, cleansing of toxins, help with sleep problems, and a greater sense of well-being and well-being are just a few examples.
Reiki Principles
For today, I will not worry
For today, I will not be angry
For today, I will do my work honestly
For today, I will be grateful for my many blessings
For today, I will be kind to my neighbors and to every living being
The Reiki principles are a way to let go of the stories your mind tells you that create suffering as you go about your day. Most events themselves are not stressful. It's the beliefs we hold about them and the way we cope with them that cause our stress.
As you become aware of these beliefs, you'll find it easier to let go of them. It's not possible, nor necessary, to live within these principles every moment of the day, but by being more mindful, you can learn how to better control your thoughts and actions.
The five principles will have a different resonance and meaning for each person, and you'll find that the feeling you have now will be different than tomorrow, next month, or a year from now.
With the focus on manifesting, which is very popular these days, we tend to choose positive intentions over negative ones, so the traditional principles may not feel natural to you. If you'd like to reformulate the principles, feel free to do so. For example, in a positive way, you could write them as follows:
Today I will trust
Today I will love
Today I will be true to myself and others
Today I will be grateful for my many blessings
Today I will be kind to my neighbors and every living being
You can also simply focus on the energy of each principle, how it feels, and what it means for you today.
